What is a Vicorder?
What is a Vicorder?
The Vicorder device (Skidmore Medical, UK) is an inflatable cuff-based device that simultaneously measures the upstroke of carotid and femoral pulsations to calculate pulse wave velocity.
What is a good PWV?
Normal mean PWV was 6.0 m/s [95% CI 5.8–6.1]. PWV increased with advancing age and BP categories (both p < 0.001). There was no difference between sex in normal PWV, however in the BP > 140/90 mmHg women had a higher PWV (p = 0.005).
What does PWV measure?
Pulse-wave velocity (PWV) is a measurement of arterial stiffness that is an independent predictor of cardiovascular risk. It can be measured simply and noninvasively by measuring the carotid and femoral pulse pressures and the time delay between the two or by other methods relying on pulse-wave analysis.
How does age affect pulse wave velocity?
The PWV increase in HT was significantly higher (0.93 m/s per decade, P < . 001) than in NT (0.44 m/s per decade). Our study provides normal values of PVW per decade, and shows that these values increase with age, especially after 50 years of age, particularly in HT patients.
What is your vascular age?
“Vascular age” is a measure of the age of the arteries and involves arteries both large and small. Diagnosis of vascular age centers around measuring arterial stiffness. If vascular age is assessed as greater than chronological age, someone may be more at risk of developing vascular disease later in life.
What is a SphygmoCor?
SphygmoCor® is the global gold standard technology for assessing the shape of the pulse and the stiffness of the arteries at a person’s heart, to provide critical information that cannot be obtained from the standard cuff blood pressure measurement.
Why is my PWV going up?
Diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol or high blood pressure induce stiff arteries, which lead to an elevated Pulse Wave Velocity. An elevated Pulse Wave Velocity is a sign of poor heart health, indicating a risk of having or developing high blood pressure.
What is withings PWV?
Withings defined PWV as “the speed at which heartbeat-generated vibrations spread out along the arterial wall.” At the time of the launch the company also said PWV is a key predictor of hypertension. The future of the PWV feature is still up in the air.
What does high PWV mean?
Current guidelines by the European Society of Hypertension state that a measured PWV larger than 10 m/s can be considered an independent marker of end-organ damage. However, the use of a fixed PWV threshold value is debated, as PWV is dependent on blood pressure .
What is high pulse wave velocity?
Background— Aging results in vascular stiffening and an increase in the velocity of the pressure wave as it travels down the aorta. Increased aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV) has been associated with mortality in clinical but not general populations.
Can you decrease vascular age?
A new study from researchers in the United Kingdom showed that first-time marathon runners reduced their “vascular age” by almost four years, reducing blood pressure and aortic stiffness and also resulting in a reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
What exercises help your arteries?
Examples: Brisk walking, running, swimming, cycling, playing tennis and jumping rope. Heart-pumping aerobic exercise is the kind that doctors have in mind when they recommend at least 150 minutes per week of moderate activity.
Can a vicorder be installed on a PC?
VICORDER® comes complete with Doppler probes, cuffs, PPG sensors, and the VICORDER® program package, easily to be installed on your PC of choice. No expensive disposables, no hidden cost.
What do you need to know about the vicorder?
The Vicorder is supplied in a carry case including all sensors, Doppler probes, cuffs and a laptop if required to perform: Vicorder (Cardiovascular & Hae…
What kind of sensor is in a vicorder?
Equipped with modern sensor technology the VICORDER®the VICORDER features bilateral pressure measurement, Pulse Volume Recording, Photo Plethysmography, and high resolution spectral Doppler sonography.
What kind of Doppler does the vicorder cardio use?
The integrated Spectral-Doppler connects to CW-probes with 5 and 8 MHz, capable of sensitively insonating small vessels, even at compromised perfusion, as well as large and deep vessels. The VICORDER® Doppler also comprises protocols for insonating brain supplying and periorbital arteries.
