It will also knock after the truck has been sitting for a half an hour, so it is not really a cold engine knock. I have about 6,700 miles on this engine and this is the second engine in my 2000 Silverado. GM replaced the original engine at 15,900 miles for the same reasons (knocking and tapping).

It also doesn’t run unevenly making the vehicle shake when it’s cold (runs smooth,) but at the same engine RPM when warmed up (to normal operating temperature or at least blowing out heat from the vents) it makes a very heavy knock sound that scares me, it’s so loud. I let the vehicle cool down (it’s 15 degrees f) and tried it again 2 hours later.

Tapping noise is noticable when at stop light, when engine is turned on and when im parking. I notice the noise a few days oil change at goodyear. My truck has been with the GMC since 3/15/2011, and still they can’t find what is causing the noise.

Why does my Chevy Silverado make a clicking noise?
I have the same clicking noise on a 2005 with a 5.3. The stethoscope tells me it is inside the oil pan near the back. It is directly related to RPM.
