Why is there no fan speed on my Silverado?
Just bought my first Silverado last November. The HVAC fan speed works on 1, 2 & 3, but not 4 or 5. I read somewhere that it could be a resistor problem. Last winter the resistor died on my D**** Caravan (darn mouse built a nest in it, if you can believe that). However, as opposed to the Silverado, here I had no fan at any speed.

If anyone finds anything out, maybe i can let him know how to fix it. typically when the resister goes out speeds 1&2 will quit working not 4&5 but i would try replacing the resister and see what happens, if you have a multi meter you can test it before you buy the $20 replacement. My truck is also doing this, my fan only works on 4.

If the blower motor runs when all of the terminals were jumped together, it means the circuit between the resistor connector and blower motor is fine as well as the blower’s motor relay, but the blower resistor is bad and needs to be replaced.

The usual failure of the resistor pack is if it works in HI (5) but not in any other mode or just a few modes. When you switch to high,the blower motor relay coil circuit is grounded and voltage is now applied directly through the relay to the blower motor; bypassing the resistors. So, I would look to see if the relay is ok.
