What is the FEE-help limit?

Any amount you borrow under either FEE-HELP or VET FEE-HELP/VET Student Loans will be added together until you reach the FEE-HELP limit. In 2019, the FEE-HELP limit is $104,440 for most students.

Is HECS the same as FEE-help?

HECS-HELP is a loan for eligible Commonwealth supported students studying at public universities (and some approved private higher education providers). FEE-HELP is a loan for eligible domestic fee paying students. These places are not subsidised by the Government and tuition fees are set by the approved providers.

Does open colleges have HECS?

HELP provides eligible students with a loan to pay all or part of their tuition fees. When you study through OUA, there’s two HELP loans that might apply to you: HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP.

Do you have to pay fee-help back?

Your HELP debt includes any unpaid HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP, OS-HELP, SA-HELP and VET Student Loans (before 1 July 2019) debts. You pay back your HELP debt through the tax system once you earn above the compulsory repayment threshold. The compulsory repayment threshold is different each year.

Is FEE HELP tax deductible in Australia?

You may be eligible for a tax deduction if you receive the FEE-HELP loan and your study meets the requirements for self-education expenses. While the loan fee is not tax deductible, you may receive a tax deduction for the amount of your tuition fees.

Does Centrelink cover open colleges?

Can I apply for Austudy or Abstudy assistance if I study with Open Colleges? Some of our courses are approved for Austudy/Abstudy assistance, provided you are eligible to receive these payments.

Does help debt interest?

There is no interest charged on HELP debts. However, indexation is added to your debt on 1 June each year. Indexation is applied to your debt to maintain its real value by adjusting it in line with changes in the cost of living. HELP debts are not indexed until they are 11 months old.
