Do you disconnect the positive terminal first before the negative?
Do you disconnect the positive terminal first before the negative?
Q: A friend of mine told me that I should always disconnect the positive terminal of the battery first to keep the electricity from spilling out of the battery. I can’t see how this would matter. I just unhook whichever terminal is closest first. I’ve never noticed any spilled electricity, and I think he’s just pulling my leg.

Can You disconnect the negative cable on a car battery?

Why do you disconnect the neutral side of a switchgear?
This is for obvious safety reasons; if you disconnect the neutral side, everything remains at live potential which is very dangerous. Some switchgear is double pole (it breaks both conductors, or all four in a three phase system), but single pole switching is always on the side which isn’t earthed. Like the fuses and circuit breakers.
What happens if you disconnect the negative on a neg?
If the negative is disconnected there is no way to complete a circuit from the battery and therefore no chance of spark. A disconnect switch needs to disconnect both the battery and the alternator charge circuit so an engine will turn off when switched off.

How do you disconnect a negative battery on a car?
First, unbolt the negative battery cable and disconnect it by lifting it free. It might take some wiggling and twisting to pull it off. Be sure never to let the wrench touch both the negative and positive terminals at the same time.
Can a battery drain with the negative cable disconnected?
Like I mentioned above, simply disconnecting the negative cable is not enough to stop your battery from losing charge. Don’t get me wrong, it is definitely better than nothing and it will go a long way in preserving your battery’s charge while you’re away. There’s something that every battery undergoes and that is called self-discharge.
