Theoretically you should point your airconditioner vent towards the ceiling. When air becomes hot the molecules get more active become lighter and hot air (not heat) rises. Heat travel’s to a cooler body. Expecially a window airconditioner will work better and more efficiently if you point the fan up.
Which way do you put lever to let AC through ceiling vents?
Push the lever completely to one side. You will know whether you have just closed or opened the vent by whether air flows from it or not.

If there is no operation of the doors at all (switching from defrost-floor-vent) then verify vacuum supply on the vacuum line at entry of the firewall (it’s easiest to get to).

What to do if your AC heater does not change?
Follow it over the brake master cylinder and then going to the front of the motor. Be careful not to pull on the vacuum lines too hard as they are brittle and crack very easily . It will T off and go down into the fender. Plug it off with a screw a little smaller than the line and use some silicone to hold the screw in.
