Does throttle body affect idle?

Does throttle body affect idle?

When a throttle body is not functioning correctly, some noticeable characteristics may be poor or very low idle. This can include stalling when coming to a stop or very low idle after starting, or even stalling if the throttle is quickly pressed (resulting in the throttle body plate opening and closing very quickly).

Is the throttle body closed at idle?

Often deposits become thick enough to prevent the blade from closing all the way – even when you take your foot completely off the gas or put your car in idle. As a result, air continues moving into the intake manifold. In that case, the throttle body blade will be able to close entirely when your car enters idle.

What is the throttle on a Chevy Silverado?

Your Silverado’s throttle body is an air-intake butterfly valve that regulates air flow. Removing it and replacing it with a shiny, new throttle position sensor (TPS), or a new unit all together can keep your truck running strong. This article applies to the Chevrolet Silverado GMT900 (2007-2013).

How to do throttle body re-Learn Chevy Malibu?

1) Start the engine and let it idle in park for 3 minutes. During that period the idle may be higher idle than normal. 2) After 3 minutes, turn the engine off and leave it off for 60- seconds. 3) Start the engine again and let it idle in park for 3 minutes one more time. During these run periods you may see a check engine light.

How long does it take for GM throttle body to relearn?

If you don’t do a relearn procedure, the PCM will “hunt” for a new baseline idle. It will eventually learn it on its own, but it may take over a week of driving, during which time you will experience high and low idle speeds and possibly rough idle. 1) Start the engine and let it idle in park for 3 minutes.

What happens when you replace the throttle body?

If you replace the throttle body, the PCM won’t know and will continue to use the adaptive settings as if the carbon buildup is still in place. If you don’t do a relearn procedure, the PCM will “hunt” for a new baseline idle.

How can you tell if your Silverado throttle body is bad?

As your Silverado’s throttle body opens, the various sensors in your Silverado measure the air coming in, and oxygen content coming out. If any of these sensors goes bad, it can feel the same as a bad throttle body. That’s why getting the trouble codes is so important. It can really narrow down what you are looking for.
