Why do new brake pads and rotors pulsate?

Why do new brake pads and rotors pulsate?

From the sound of it, the old pads (probably the cheap “value pads”) don’t match the new rotor material and quickly exceeded the operating temp of the pads and left uneven deposits of pad material on the rotor. Or vis-versa and super agressive pads on normal rotors quickly exceeded the rotors operating temp and unevenly heat treated the rotors.

What should I do if my brakes pulsate after a hard stop?

During break-in, avoid leaving the hydraulic brakes on after a hard stop on heated brakes. Coast, use the handbrake for the final stop, whatever it takes. (It is the front rotors that do all the work and heat the most).

When to change brake pads and rotors again?

If you are changing the pads again, then get the rotors turned on a lathe first, then you will be sure they are not warped or have a pad deposit build up on the discs Brake pads and rotors have to be “matched sets” when it comes to the materials.

Why are my brakes pulsating when I start the car?

During the installation steps, it’s important that you thoroughly clean and remove rust from any parts you’re reusing to avoid excess friction and grinding, and make sure you use all new hardware every time you do service on your vehicle. Another common cause for vibrating or pulsating brakes is heat spots on your rotors.

What causes pulsation on front disc when braking?

You might luck out. Pulsation on a front disc/rear drum car when braking is usually due to warped front rotors or (less frequently) warped rear drums. Unless you are certain this is coming from the rear drums, first suspect the front rotors.
