What is a retina tuft?

What is a retina tuft?

A tuft on the retina is a small elevation where the bag of gel that fills the eye is pulling on a focal part of the retina. However there is no tear in the retina.

What causes retinal Tufts?

Cystic retinal tufts are congenital focal malformations of the peripheral retina. The precise cause of these lesions is unknown. Cystic retinal tufts appear as discrete, sharply circumscribed opaque white lesions in the peripheral retina (Figs 180.8 and 180.9).

What is cystic retinal tufts?

A cystic retinal tuft is an elevated, round or oval peripheral lesion composed primarily of glial tissue. The lesion appears sharply circumscribed and chalky white (unlike the translucency of a retinal flap). The tuft contains crypts of vitreous and has traction at its apex from condensed vitreous.

Do all retinal holes need to be treatment?

In most cases, no treatment for retinal holes is required. Your eye doctor will usually just note the finding of a retinal hole and monitor it with routine comprehensive eye exams.

What are the side effects of barrage laser treatment?

Complications of laser barrage include transient effects (blurred vision, raised intraocular pressure, and headache) and permanent effects (poor night vision, poor color vision, and peripheral field defect).

How serious is a hole in the retina?

Retinal holes and tears do not automatically cause severe vision problems; instead, the areas of the retina that have holes and tears will not function correctly. If the condition is not well managed or treated in due time, then significant vision loss or even blindness can occur.

What is a subclinical retinal detachment?

Subclinical retinal detachments are those with subretinal fluid extending more than 1 disc diameter from the break but less than 2 disc diameters posterior to the equator. If subretinal fluid extends less than 1 disc diameter, the condition is defined as a retinal break without detachment.

What is puckering of macula right eye?

A macular pucker is scar tissue that has formed on the eye’s macula, located in the center of the light-sensitive tissue called the retina. The macula provides the sharp, central vision we need for reading, driving, and seeing fine detail. A macular pucker can cause blurred and distorted central vision.

Is barrage laser surgery?

Laser photocoagulation(Barrage laser) During the procedure, your surgeon will put anaesthetic drops in the eye. Then a highly focused beam of laser light is used to seal the tissue around the retinal hole. This is known as ‘Laser photocoagulation’. It is a quick and painless procedure.

How successful is barrage laser?

They confirm that laser barrage was capable of limiting RD in four out five (80%) cases of RD originating from previously treated lesions; they affirm that such treatment could at least limit RD development; however, the possibility that the treatment itself played a part in causing the progression of PVD has to be …

Can a detached retina heal on its own?

In some cases, retinal detachment is minor enough that it will heal on its own, in other cases, surgery, laser therapy, or other treatments will be required as well as professional observation to assure that healing is properly progressing. In some cases, it will take months to recover from retinal detachment,…

What are the symptoms of a hole in the retina?

A hole in your retina is just a small break in the lining. Small tears can have no effect. Sometimes you may have symptoms such as floaters, cloudy, wavy or blurry vision, or dark shadows in your peripheral vision.

How is vision after a retinal detachment surgery?

It is not uncommon to still have blurry vision for several months after retinal detachment surgery. This could be related to a small amount of residual fluid from the detachment that has not been completely reabsorbed yet. Or It could be due to the retina’s light sensitive cells, the rods and cones, still recovering from the detachment.
