Try taking your oil pan off and check your oil pick up line going from the oil pan to the turbo. A lot of times it gets a lot of sludge build up and makes the pressure little to none. I wanted to add my recent experience to this thread…I recently purchased a 94 Silverado with the 4.3L balance shaft design. 139k miles and 180psi on all cylinders. Loud rattling noise just over 1K rpms.

Engine knock can be caused by a ton of factors, such as low-grade fuel, bad spark plugs, carbon build-up, etc. Engine knock is terrible for your engines internals and can cause serious damage to the pistons and to the cylinder walls. On the 4.3L vortec, the cause of the engine knock has not necessarily been figured out, still to this day.

1. Remove the engine front cover. 2. Remove the crankshaft sensor reluctor ring and line up the timing marks on the crank gear and camshaft gear. 3. Remove the camshaft gear and chain. For model years 1996-’98, removal tool. 4. Pull the shipping pin and discard.
