How to change rear diff fluid on a G80?
G80 Rear Diff Fluid Change. Getting prepared to change the rear axle fluid on my G80. Wondered if you are buying new fastners like GM suggests?? Are you getting them from the dealer?? What about fluid?? Going to Use 75W90 Syn, maybe Amsoil, but do I need an extra additive for the G80??
What kind of oil does A G80 use?
The G80 and a LS Diff are 2 completely different animals. The G80 uses Any 75W90 oil with no Additives. A LS diff has to have the additive in it for the clutch packs to function properly. The G80 is a Mechanically Locking Differential that engages when one wheels spins at a certain RPM mechanically locking the differential together.
What is the fluid capacity of the rear differential?
Tag on the differential suggest a level to maintain- 15 to 40 mm below fill hole (not real easy to determine). So the question is… What is the fluid capacity of the rear differential?
What does the RPO G80 rear differential do?
The optional locking differential (RPO G80) enhances the traction capability of the rear axle by combining the characteristics of a limited-slip differential and the ability of the axle shafts to “lock” together when uneven traction surfaces exist. The differential accomplishes this in 2 ways.
What kind of differential fluid does a Chevy G80 use?
For both front and rear diffs, since then I’ve always used Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 75w-90, which also has “LS” on the label. It has the proper friction modifiers for the G80. Others do too. As others said, the front takes just under 2 qts. The rear takes less than 4 qts.
Can you use a limited slip differential on a G80?
A limited slip differentials is normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a Eaton locking differential. The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life.
