I can 100% confirm that the fuel filter on the crewmans and 1 Tonners are in the tank. They are part of the fuel pump module, the module assembly needs to be dismantled to replace the fuel filter which is basically the bottom of the assembly.
How to remove fuel filter from VZ Commodore?
No need till the current one breaks.. Remove fuel pump fuse (under bonnet RHS) start engine and allow to stall. Push, Squeeze the tangs on the side of the connector, then pull.. Take note of flow direction on new filter, push connector’s onto new filter, replace fuse and turn on ignition (allow to prim) and start engine then check for leaks.

On a Crewman you can replace it by unbolting the tray and sliding the tray about 300mm back to get to the tank. There is/was a video on this forum which shows how to. Try a forum or google search. The old sock and filter were caked in black mud once it dried out. Anyways seeing as the tank won’t come out with the frame on top I’m going to cut a section out of the Z-beam on one side.

Also Crewman tank is shaped like a saddle bag straddling the tailshaft. There appears to me no hoses low down allowing fuel to balance between the 2 halfs. As the fuel pump/sender is one assembly and sit in one side how does the fuel level balance out between the 2 halfs of the tank either side of the tailshaft ?

Holden are asking nearly $800 to access and replace sender ( need to drop the tank) so would like to do a bity of investigation first in case simply a calibration issue or a simple blocked transfer hose between 2 tanks. Slug powered VZ, a VE Calais & your mum. That is exactly what mine does.

It’s because Crewman fuel pump assembly in a Crewman tank, in a Crewman, having a wagon BCM & ECU reading info as if the tank was bigger. For OP, one cause for the problem might be an ECU or BCM in the Crewman that’s not correctly set up with a Tech 2. Or someone replaced the computers (like I did) before they owned it.
