Why does the fuel flap on my Skoda Superb not open?
These had a propensity for breaking on the cable and / or mechanism – you will just have to see what you find when you get in there – but doing that as above will enable to use it / to get fuelled up. Let me know how you go..and / or let me know if you need anything further on this..

At present I can only open the fuel filler flap if I press the flap in just the right place (in line with the release mechanism) and also press the flap in deeply and very hard. I think I shall have to get the dealer to look at this aspect – it can’t be right!

Fairly common. If you pull down the carpet in the boot on the drivers side you’ll see the fuel flap release cable. There’s a connector that pushes which has probably come loose. Plus one on issue. I may have posted a cable tie fix. Worked for me. Yep, the cable pops free of the end.

Not familiar with Superb II but the B5 Passat and therefore Superb I had access through the jack storage panel in the wheelarch trim and you could release it manually. Failing that a well aimed squirt of WD40 on the pin with repeated locking/unlocking might free it Yes it’s the door on the outside as opposed to the internal fuel cap.
What to use to grease fuel filler flap?
Fuel filler flap locking mechanism, once greased, is unlikely to give any further trouble, so long as it was greased while still working well. You can grease it from fuel filler flap side using silicone grease spray, or silicone+teflon grease spray, and feed the grease while holding the bolt pressed into the mechanism.
What to do when your fuel cap is stuck?
This is of no use when your fuel flap is stuck shut, except perhaps by removing the road wheel and arch liner and only then if you have long arms. The slender, pointy bit highest in that photo is the locking pin.
