Why is my Chevy Silverado security light not working?

Why is my Chevy Silverado security light not working?

Answer: It depends on what make and model truck you are talking about. It a Chevy 1500 or GMC sierra, you may have a problem with the sensor in the steering column that looks at the key to decide if it is the correct one. If that goes bad, you would need to have the sensor in the column replaced.

How to reset the security system on a Chevy Silverado?

A Chevy Silverado that has had its Passlock security system enabled will shut down the fuel injectors on the vehicle and will not allow the vehicle to start. Resetting the system may be as simple as using the vehicle key.

Is the theft deterrent system on a Chevy Silverado?

Yes. Then that is your issue. The theft deterrent system will kill the fuel enable signal so the truck won’t start. Your Silverado does not have a programmable key, but it does have a Passlock system that can be reprogrammed, but more than likely the sensor itself is bad and that would require replacement of the ignition cylinder housing assembly.

Why does my Silverado turn over but not start?

It will turn over but die as soon as it starts. The red battery light came on because the truck died and the key was still on. That is normal and I doubt you have any charging problems. With it starting and dying out, you have a bigger problem going on. There is probably trouble codes set in the computer which will help out with diagnosis.

Why does my Chevy Silverado have no lights?

Sorry, it’s a Silverado. No lights, and the diagnostic tool shows nothing. OK. Most likely not the fuel pump. If a new one made no change, then highly unlikely. Have you checked for spark at the plugs? No…I replaced the fuel filter. My buddy said to spray gas in the throttle body to see if it would start, it doesn’t.

What to do if your Chevy Silverado wont start?

That quick test is to see if the engine is getting fuel. If it was not, and you spray in the throttle then it starts, that shows there was no fuel getting it. Since yours did not start, then you either have no spark, or the injectors are not firing. How do I check those?

1.) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position. 2.) Observer that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated. 3.) Release key to the ‘ON/Accessory’ Position. (DO NOT turn key to the ‘OFF’ position). 4.) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the ‘ON/Accessory’ Position for at least 11 minutes.

Why does my Chevy Silverado security light keep flashing?

Again as I asked about any warning lights- if the security light were flashing, then that would be your problem. You could possibly have a bad crank position sensor. That would cause no spark and no fuel injector pulse. The security light always flashes, always has.

How do you test a Chevy Silverado security light?

Pull a plug wire off and stick a small screwdriver in it, then place the screwdriver about an inch from a metal object. While cranking engine you should see the spark jump. For the injectors, you need a test light. Unplug an injector and put the test light leads on the connector terminals. Crank engine and the light should flash.
