Is the battery dead and the doors locked?

Basically the battery is completely dead and the doors are locked. There’s only one external lock which is the drivers door. I understand there is a way of jacking up the car and connecting some leads to the positive terminal of the starter motor and the other to the chase, but I would like to ascertain other ways first.
