What causes a car window to go down?
Window motor assembly and wiring. If the window will only go down, there’s a good chance it’s off the tracks or its support is broken, only allowing it to go down.
Can a shorted wire cause a window not to work?
The fuse might be blown. A shorted wire will not only cause the window to not work, but will also overload the fuse, causing it to blow. Look for pinched wiring (as seen in Figure 2) as a possible indicator. Unfortunately, tracing a wire can be pretty time consuming.
