Is the speedo on my boat not working?

Is the speedo on my boat not working?

Pulled the cannon plug, also clean but wiggeld around as I reinserted. Decide to make a quick run outside the marina, boat runs great,. just no gauges. Also no speedo, and no tach. Alkthough the PP reads RPM and voltage.

Why are the gauges on my boat not working?

Since none of the gauges are working (I assume so unless the tach is working, which is the only gauge you didn’t mention) then I would think it could be a power or grounding problem. Try climbing under the dash and making sure the two plugs on the MDC are seated well and make sure the cannon plug at the back of the engine is seated as well.

What to do if your gauge cluster is not working?

Since they are all giving you trouble, then I would recommend pulling the dash fascia out and getting your hands on that gauge. Trace the cable out through the panels and anywhere there is a connector pull and re-seat it many times to use friction to scrape clean corrosion off the leads and get a better connection.

How can I get the Malibu gauge to work?

To get to it just remove the screw at the top middle of the dash and the 2 screws at the bottom that secure the Malibu logo. The entire oval section will fold outward and downward to expose the connectors. My setup is like yours, and I pulled the panel, removed the connector on the back of the gauge, real clean.

Why is the speedometer and rpm not working?

The internal light (“L” terminal) for each gauge is typically fed from the NAV/ANC switch but in some cases that terminal is powered whenever the key is in the RUN position. A voltmeter is needed to verify that voltage is present. If some gauges work and others don’t, suspect a sender or sender wiring problem.

Why is the tachometer on my car not working?

Tachometers have a “sense” signal on the the “S” terminal that originates from the the charging system. If the battery is not being charged (look at the voltmeter) then that would account for the tachometer not working either. Fuel senders are typically 33 – 240 ohm resistive devices. You need a multitester to verify operation of any sender.

Where does the speedometer go on a boat?

Speedometers are mechanical devices and require only +12 volts and ground for the internal light. A plastic tube runs from the speedo head to the pitot at the back of the boat. This will be a separate unit or built into the lower unit on the engine.
