Why is my trans fluid GREY?

Re: why is my transmission fluid grey? Engine oil and gear oil will turn milly white or shades of grey if there is water contamination. You’ll want to change the fluid at least twice to make sure you get all that crap out of there.

Why is transmission fluid leaking from the vent?

I think it’s a vent for the transmission and just runs over the transfer case. The fluid leaking out is red and l believe this is transmission fluid and not the autotrac fluid. The truck seems to drive fine and I checked the transmission fluid level and it looks good. Any reason it would be leaking from the vent tube?

How can you tell if your transmission fluid is leaking?

Droplets of fluid underneath the transmission are a telltale sign of a leak. Automatic transmission fluid is typically red in color when it’s relatively fresh and clean. Manual transmission fluid (or gear oil) is semi-transparent or honey-colored. But what exactly causes a transmission fluid leak in the first place?

Where does the transmission fluid come out of?

Transmission fluid comes up out of the transmission vent tube that is attached to the transmission dipstick tube. It’s not alot but you can tell where it’s coming from.

What causes the transmission fluid to be discolored?

High temperature causes the transmission fluid to be discolored or to have a strong odor. Local conditions, severity of operation, or duty cycle may require more or less frequent fluid or filter change intervals.
