Where does the green wire for the tachometer connect?

Where does the green wire for the tachometer connect?

The green wire reads the electrical pulses from the ignition. For most standard ignitions it connects to the distributor primary or negative (-) side of the ignition coil. WARNING: Do not connect to coil on MSD ignitions. Some electronic ignitions have a tach terminal on the ignition box, the green wire may connect there.

What kind of wire does a tach need?

Depending on your engine, there may be a constant-flow wire and a pulse wire to the tach, as well as the additional wires for the ignition, lights, and other components.

How is the tachometer connected to the ignition switch?

As on the schematic, the positive wire from the tachometer is connected to the ignition switch. Signal wire connects to a line between coil negative and contact point. Contact point is replaced by igniter for vehicle with electronic ignition systems. Tachometer negative wire is connected to the vehicle body.

Can a tachometer table be modified to match the color code?

If your tachometer has different color code wires, then the table can be modified to suit your wiring color code. Suppose you have a tachometer with black, red and green wires, no yellow wire.

Where to put a tach signal on a battery?

We recommend using the same location as the battery negative terminal ground. Verify you are using a proper signal source. The most common locations for a tach signal are the negative terminal of the ignition coil or tachometer output terminal (HEI, Ignition Control Boxes or ECU). Verify 12V ACC, signal and ground connections (see above).
