Can a 4×4 Shift be made at any speed?

Shifts into 4X4 can be made at any speed. When shifting into 4X4 with the vehicle stationary, tooth blockage may occur, preventing shift completion. When the vehicle is driven above 8 km/h (5mph) the shift will complete. When shifting in or out of 4X4 LOW, the four-wheel drive (4WD) Vacuum Pumpcontrol module requires that the vehicle speed be

How does a 4WD control module do a shift?

The 4WD control module accomplishes shifts by interpreting inputs from: • MSS • vehicle speed signal (transmitted from the ABS system) • gearmotor encoder plate position • brake pedal switch • digital TR sensor (automatic transmission) • clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (manual transmission) • ignition switch Copyright  2002, Ford Motor Company

Can a Ford Ranger shift to 4WD Low range?

Note: The shift control module receives speed input from a speed sensor on the vehicle. It does not allow the transfer case to shift into 4WD if it is moving to fast, or in to 4WD Low Range if it isn’t stopped. Additionally, the transfer case will not go in to 4WD Low Range (4LO) unless it is in 4WD first.
