What does a smog pump do on an engine?
What does a smog pump do on an engine?
The smog pump is responsible for supplying fresh, pressurized oxygen into the exhaust stream near the exhaust manifold. The spinning vanes of the air pump forcing air into the diverter valve accomplish this.
What is smog injection?
Secondary air injection (commonly known as air injection) is a vehicle emissions control strategy introduced in 1966, wherein fresh air is injected into the exhaust stream to allow for a fuller secondary combustion of exhaust gases.
What are air injection headers?
The air injection system (AIS) is designed to introduce clean air to the engine exhaust as it exits the exhaust manifold or exhaust headers. As the engine cycles, this vacuum draws fresh oxygen into the Air Injection lines. The air is then used to prolong thorough exhaust burning.
How does the smog pump work on a Mustang?
SMOG pump (Thermactor Air System) This pump brings air to the back of the heads and into the two rear catalytic converters. When the engine is cold, the thermactor air system pumps fresh air into the heads (there are bumps in each exhaust port in the head, air goes in from the back of the heads from the cross-over tube).
Is the smog system on a fox mustang worth it?
We often see dismantled smog systems on fox Mustangs, some think the power gains are worth the effort and in some cases worth the risk in areas where removing smog can lead to fines.
Where can I find the Ford fleet emissions guide?
Welcome to the Ford Fleet Emissions Guide. This page is designed to help verify emissions standards and certification (i.e., CFFP, EPAct. LEV, ULEV) on all fuel types offered by Ford Motor Company throughout the United States. Any questions you have may be directed to 1-800-34-FLEET, pick #2.
What is the positive ventilation system on a Mustang 5.0?
Parts are: No matter how new your 5.0 is, it will have some amount of blow-by which is gases from the combustion leaking into the crankcase, causing pressure build up. This PVC system vents the crankcase and allows the harmful vapors to get burned up. The “positive” ventilation also helps to prolong engine life.
Can you remove the smog pump from a Ford F150?
I usually remove a cat, the evap canister and reroute the tank vent into my cowl to keep water out, and remove the smog pump. 96 and newer vehicles you cant pull any of that stuff off unless you figure out how to make the computer happy. The problem with using a smaller belt on the air pump removal is the belt they make for it is just a tad to big.

Do you need belt to bypass smog pump?
Just an FYI for those looking to bypass the smog pump. You’ll need an 87.5″ belt. Make sure you route it the right way or you’ll pull your hair out trying different belts. Ok so I replaced my alternate r an my 3 v belts.
