I bought a 2019 powerstroke used with 16k miles on it. The day after I bought it the “water in fuel” light came on. In the past 3 weeks I’ve had it back to the dealership 3 times.

Why does my fuel sensor light go out?
Unplug the water in fuel sensor wiring from the bottom of the filter and see what happens. If the light stays on you’ve got a wiring or computer problem. If it goes out the problem is with the sensor. I don’t think much can go wrong with the sensor, wonder if there is just some crud in-between the two sensor prongs.

The water in fuel light comes on when the sensor on the fuel filter under the cab detects water present in the fuel. The truck will reduce power if enough water is detected after the water in fuel light comes on.
