Yes. Bad ignition coils can damage and or cause spark plugs to degrade prematurely. Continuing to drive with bad ignition coils can damage other parts, including the catalytic converter. Since a faulty ignition coil causes a misfire, it will also cause the related spark plugs to foul.

Same issue with our 06 Fusion. It lost #5 and i traced it to pcm. Found a replacement pcm with matching calibration code, part number, and they were close enough off the line that the last 4 digits of the serial number were the only difference.

Not sure what help I can offer but my 2006 V6 Fusion was one of the first I’ve heard with the melted ignition coil story. After putting in the new coils the PCM was still not sending any power to the coil packs, so I had it replaced; luckily while I was still under the powertrain warranty.

The dealer determined that the car needs to have the TSB applied and that it is under warranty, so that will include replacement of the PCM, all coil packs and the plugs. That’s the good news! The bad news is that the PCM is back-ordered and it may take two weeks to get it.
