What kind of sealer do you use on SBC head bolts?

What kind of sealer do you use on SBC head bolts?

Permatex does have teflon thread sealer too and that’s what I used last time. Prior to that always Permatex #2, same same both worked. I usually just run a 3/8″ strip around the threads, about 1/4″ from the end. Just a slight coating.

Can you use Permatex No 2 on aluminum head bolts?

What I’ve read on line is that RTV silicone will work but not if you need to retorque the head bolts, as some aluminum head manufacturers recommend. Permatex No. 2 is gooey brown stuff that does not harden, so the bolts can be retorqued without breaking the seal.

Is it OK to use silicone for intake seals?

Silicone and the Right Stuff..blah,blah…it has it’s own place like intake ends in place of the rubber end seals.. but NOT on threaded bolts or connections that go into oil or water. Don’t out-trick yourself here, Old School is best.

Can you use antifreeze on SBF head bolts?

PS. of course rocker studs are not head bolts, but you get the idea; antifreeze does not impact the ARP when the threads of the are good and clean. It’s very important to chase the thread in the block, or heads in my case, and blow out the hole of the resulting debris. I use Permatex No. 3 Aviation Form-a-Gasket Sealant.
