Can a car lose power in 3rd gear?

It has recently been checked over and serviced by a reliable garage and given the all clear. For the last few days she’s been reporting that the occasionally whilst driving along at a steady pace (say 30mph in 3rd gear) she will just ‘lose power’. She describes this as she can put her foot all the way down to the floor and ‘nothing happens’.

Why is my car losing power at low speeds?

If the pressure is low the fuel injectors will not be able to spray the correct amount of fuel into the combustion chamber and that will result in a loss of power. A faulty fuel pump will not pose problems at low speeds but when you are looking for quick acceleration you might be left wanting.

Why does my car lose power when I put my foot on the gas?

The ignition system has ignition coils which convert 12 volts of power from your battery into the 20,000 volts of power needed to ignite the engine. If you were to have a bad ignition coil, then the mixture of fuel and air inside the engine would not be ignited adequately. This means you would lose power as you put your foot on the gas pedal.

Why does my car lose power after a shift?

You notice it more in 1-2 and 2-3 because those gear ratios are much farther apart than 3-4 (it’s a 4 speed A140E) and the engine RPM drops way down after the shift and falls out of the power band. And the 5S-FE already lacks power to begin with.

What does it mean when your engine revs up?

If your engine revs up as you press down on the accelerator but your vehicle doesn’t accelerate as per usual or as you would expect, it’s a troublesome sign that can lead to a full-blown transmission failure. Transmission slipping, or gears slipping, is one of the most common transmission problems on both manual and automatic transmissions.

What does it mean when your transmission is slipping?

Transmission slipping, or gears slipping, is a common transmission problem and a real cause for concern. Here’s what you need to know. If your engine revs up as you press down on the accelerator but your vehicle doesn’t accelerate as per usual or as you would expect, it’s a troublesome sign that can lead to a full-blown transmission failure.

Why is my transmission not shifting to higher gears?

Other possibilities could be an engine related problem that will cause the computer to not allow the transmission to shift into higher gears. This condition can also be caused by low transmission fluid, contamination due to lack of maintenance or water intrusion, or internal wear and tear on the transmission parts inside the transmission.
