On the 2002 F 150 the sensor is in the latch not on the A or B pillar like on most cars. You can’t just push it like usual.

Where are the cluster lights on a Ford F-150?
The cluster lamps are apparently controlled automaticly by a sensor located on the dash, however it is very difficult to see the dash meters when it is dark enough to turn on the headlamps, but not light enough for the sensor to engage.
