When do you need to troubleshoot Your Headlights?

Headlights are very vital for your safety when you are driving at night. If they don’t work properly, or do not aim as they should, visibility will be poor and you won’t have the opportunity of seeing the road perfectly. But there are times that they will malfunction and you will need to troubleshoot headlights.

What to do if your HID headlights are bad?

Turn on the HID headlights and wait for the bulb to shut off by itself. Then turn off your headlight switch and immediately turn it back on. This resets the ballast. If the bulb lights with a weak pink/purple color, it’s usually a bad bulb. Turn on your HID headlights. If both lights are lit, wait for one bulb to turn off.

What happens when you turn off the headlight?

However, as the bulb ages, it may shut off (drop its arc) more often. That can happen as many as 30 times per minute. When that occurs, the ballast tends to overheat. To protect itself, the ballast itself will shut down. It will not reset itself. The ballast can only be reset by turning the headlight switch off and then on again.

Why do HID headlights not have black mask?

An “S” HID bulb is designed to fit in a projector-style headlight assembly. It does not have the black mask because projector headlights have a built-in internal shield to prevent glare.

What causes headlights to flash when CTM fails?

When it senses a command for fog lamps it provide ground to the control coil of an externally mounted fog lamp relay located in the power distribution center. When the CTM fails, it can result in flashing headlights or flickering headlights.

When do you turn on the automatic headlamps?

When it is dark enough outside, your automatic headlamp system will turn on your headlamps at the normal brightness along with other lamps such as the taillamps, sidemarker, parking lamps and the instrument panel lights. The radio lights will also be dim.
