What happens when you take your foot off the accelerator?
I remember when driving a passenger car, when I took my foot off the accelerator pedal completely, but remained in gear, the car would normally continue to move at some low speed, different for each gear, more or less constant for each gear (provided the road is flat). Now I drive a van, and I am surprised it doesn’t behave like that.
Is it normal to move forward without pressing the accelerator?
Does this also mean that if i am standing on a climbing slope with engine started, and need to move on, then I can simply take off my foot off the clutch and break, without the worry of the car rolling back? its normal, in fact, if it doesnt, you should be worried. its a useful feature in traffic.
Is it normal to drive a car without pressing the accelerator?
and yes, the car will climb without use of the accelerator up some serious inclines if the surface is smooth and provides enough traction. You always should worry about the car rolling back, and be prepared for it. the car wont, not normally, but its best not to get caught out. Absolutely normal. Enjoy the bumper to bumper traffic.
Why is my car revving without an accelerator?
As mentioned, an air leak into the inlet manifold would give these symtoms. Also possibilities are vehicle speed sensor fault, clutch switch, power steering pressure switch – all of these could request a high rpm if faulty. Best option would be to get the fault codes read out, that should identify the cause. All the above is wrong.
Is it normal for a car to move without the accelerator?
All that has happened after that is the idle RPM going down from about 1100 to 900, but the car still moves without pressing the accelerator. Of course, for higher speeds I have to step on the gas. Is it normal behaviour or is it a problem?

What’s the idle speed of a car without the accelerator?
The clutch enables the gear to get engaged, so when you release the clutch slowly, the first gear gets activated and drives the car forward, though to increase the speed, you need to step on the accelerator. The cleaning of injectors is a good thing and the idle speed should hover around 900-1000 mark. Thanks very much guys.
What happens if you don’t use the accelarator?
If you do not use the accelarator, the engine will stall due to fuel shortage. Hence you need to slightly open throttle to get the bike moving. Cars have microprocessor controlled engines. They can sense ‘n’ number of things and control ‘n’ number of processes. This N depends upon how advanced the car is.
