The switch had power for the dash lighting as well as power to the switched portion as well. Easy as can be. Why do I need to hook up aux switches?
Sounds to me like if those switches are hooked to nothing then the wires you have going to them are for the lights that are in the switch when you turn on your dash lights. It possible that the switches could already have power and they just need the output plugged in. If your around sometime I can take a look at it for you.

Connect the upfitter switch wiring connector to the back of the upfitter switch. It is indexed and will only go in one way. Take the upfitter switch and connected wire and press the assembly into the dash opening on the far left side until the switch snaps in.

Where are the auxiliary switches on a Ford F-Series?
You should be able to located the fuses for the auxiliary switches in the fuse panel to identify the max current for each switch. I believe AUX 1-2 are 30 Amps, and AUX 3-4 are 10 Amps. If you need more room to work, you can unclip the relay pack and pull it out under the driver steering column right near the parking brake.
