How does the heater on a Ford F150 work?

F150 No Heat: How the Heater Works. At the simplest level possible, the heater works by passing hot coolant from the engine into a tiny radiator called the heater core. At this point, the blower motor blows air across the it and the newly heated air blows on to the driver and passengers.

Can you blow air through a Ford radiator?

You cannot blow air through it! It came from Ford that way and YOU MUST NOT REPLACE IT WITH A HOSE THAT HAS NO BLOCKAGE. All you have to do to get the air out of the top of the radiator is to temporarily remove the “vent hose” from the top of the radiator, wait until coolant emerges from the opening, and then replace the “vent hose”.

Why is the thermostat on my F150 not working?

Never touch the radiator cap unless the vehicle is ICE COLD. The job of your F150’s thermostat is to regulate the temperature of the engine. It does this by allowing water to enter the engine when it is getting hot, and by keeping coolant from entering while the vehicle warms up. Sometimes when a thermostat goes bad, it stays stuck open.

Why does my Blend door heater not turn on?

There is a blend door actuator in the heater box; that should open when you turn the knob to “hot”, allowing warm air to come out. It is probably stuck, or it’s not operating correctly. Could be a bad actuator, or a problem with the circuit. it seems to blow hotter air while driving. Now it does not have any heat until the temp gauge spikes.
