Why does only one side of my car work?

Why does only one side of my car work?

It could be the speaker wire, any of the wiring connections or a bad speaker. At this point we’ll need to remove the speaker from the door and test it on the amplifier using short lengths of speaker wire. If the speaker works then the wiring is the problem. If it doesn’t work then it is indeed a bad speaker.

Why does my amp go into protection mode when I turn it on?

Some amps go into protect mode if they get too hot, which can prevent a permanent failure. The common cause of overheating is a lack of airflow. If the amp is located underneath the seats, or in another confined space, that may cause it to overheat.

Can a car amplifier really be at fault?

Sometimes the amp itself really is at fault. Here are a few common problems and what can be done to troubleshoot, as well as fix them (my fixes are the most common. They are not definitive in any way. Your amplifier could have a completley different problem, though it is unlikely):

Is there a way to turn off an amplifier in a car?

They can be hard wired to the car’s electrical system and a simple switch can be wired inline to turn them on and off. Problem: Amplifier’s volume turns down. Solution: Many new amplifiers have protection circuitry that will limit the volume if they begin to get too hot. In this case, you would want to refer to the above problem for the solution.

What should I do if my car AMP is over powered?

If you have multiple subs hooked to a single amp, then you’ll have to do some calculations based on whether they’re hooked up in series or parallel. Should you find that the impedances match, then you’ll want to check both the power ratings of your sub and your amp and make the necessary corrections if the amp is either under- or over-powered.

Why does my car amplifier keep blowing up?

The majority of the time, it’s because mosfets are blown. It is never a bad idea to try hooking up the amplifier in a different car or taking it in to be tested just to be sure. Sometimes you can open the amp up and find physically fried components.

Sometimes the amp itself really is at fault. Here are a few common problems and what can be done to troubleshoot, as well as fix them (my fixes are the most common. They are not definitive in any way. Your amplifier could have a completley different problem, though it is unlikely):

How many amps can a car amplifier draw?

Many can easily draw up to 50A (amperes) but that’s usually only when near maximum power. During normal, low-volume use, they draw only a few amps. Amplifiers are normally connected by a fuse directly to the vehicle’s battery for the positive wire.

Can a car amplifier drive a car stereo?

Although they’re powered from the vehicle’s battery connection, it’s impossible for a car stereo or amplifier to drive speakers directly with high power from only 12 volts. The reason is the mathematical properties of electrical power and the speaker impedance (resistance) for speakers.
