What is a Degas system?
Degas bottles are crucial components of automotive engine coolant systems, used to de-aerate the coolant fluid during its passage. These bottles consist of several chambers and have a complex geometry based on underhood compactness and vehicle design.
What does a Degas hose do?
The degas pipe (or coolant hose) carries hot coolant from the engine to the expansion bottle (the reservoir for coolant, which can be topped up as necessary).
Why do I get coolant in my Degas bottle?
EOT is new when the Injectors and Oil cooler were installed. Lastly, never cap the radiator vent hose or the EGR vent hose. The system will not cool properly with these capped off. So that was just to test to see why I was getting coolant pumping into the degas bottle.

It is not uncommon for the degas bottle to crack at the seam between top and bottom. This may or may not be a result of overpressurization/overheating due to head gasket failure, and therefore head gasket should be considered as a possibility even if the degas bottle is cracked.
What causes an engine oil cooler to overheat?
This overheating in the cooler is sometimes caused by low coolant flow to the cooler since coolant must pass first through the stock engine oil cooler before it is delivered to the EGR cooler. As the engine oil cooler begins to clog, the EGR cooler is starved for coolant.

What causes head gasket to fail on 6.0L diesel?
EGR Coolers on the 6.0L Powerstroke cool the exhaust gases before they are reintroduced the the engine. This reduces NOx emissions. As with all early emissions devices, they frequently cause problems. Higher operating temperatures are a typical symptom of a clogged EGR cooler. These higher temperatures commonly cause head gasket failures.
What causes a 6.0L Turbo to fail?
Early 6.0L Powerstroke trucks also suffer from a poor oil drain tube. The collection of oil in the turbocharger can result in the oil cooking. This has been the root cause of many all-out turbocharger failures in the 6.0L Powerstrokes. Ford gave ’06 and ’07 models an improved oil drain tube, resulting in drastically less turbo failures.
