Is AFM and DoD the same?
Is AFM and DoD the same?
Active Fuel management (AFM) and Displacement on Demand (DOD) are the same thing: a system developed by General Motors that deactivates cylinders during periods of low engine load. It was used on certain 5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L engines starting in 2005 and continued until the release of late-model direct-injected engines.
What is Chevy DoD AFM?
Active Fuel Management (AFM) is a trademarked General Motors technology that improves gas mileage by shutting down half of the cylinders under light-load conditions to reduce fuel consumption. It is also known as Displacement on Demand (DoD) or cylinder deactivation.
Can a tuner disable AFM?
Any tuner can turn off afm, it you want to take a gamble get a diablo tuner and it will really wake the throttle response up.
How to disable AFM / DoD at no cost?
Should be fairly simple. IIRC, it has a grey locking insert. Slide that out completely, press on the tab and pull. I think if you splice into the blue wire, it should work as it is the signal wire. Don’t know if you will actually get Displacement on Demand on demand though.
How to delete or disable Active Fuel Management ( AFM ) on?
There are two ways to disable or delete Active Fuel Management on your GM or Chevy Gen IV LS or LS-based Vortec engine—one is to install an AFM Disabler, and the second is to install an AFM Delete Kit. Here’s what you need to know: 1. Install an AFM Delete Kit
What is the operating range of the AFM?
The AFM system has an operating range from 27 PSI to 66 PSI of oil pressure. At higher engine speeds the high side of this operating range is controlled by the AFM oil pressure relief valve. At low engine speeds the low side of the operating range will depend on the engines ability to produce oil pressure using the flow of oil from the oil pump.
What happens when you eliminate the AFM system?
When you eliminate the AFM system, the extra oil is no longer needed. Excess oil will be pushed out of the pressure relief valve into the oil pan. This will spray oil on the bottom of the cylinder walls which can cause oil burning, especially in high-rpm engines.
