Do I need to let my Turbo Diesel cool down?
Do I need to let my Turbo Diesel cool down?
In particular, the exhaust part of the turbo is designed to get hot. Since exhaust gases keep it hot, once you shut the engine off the turbo temperature can only cool down, unlike the cooling system on the engine. To summarize, all engines with a cooling system need a cool down after long sustained full load.
How long does it take for a diesel turbo to cool down?
How long do you set it for? The engine needs to idle just long enough for the exhaust gas temp (EGT) to cool down to 300° F. That requires anywhere from a few seconds to 8 minutes or more, but usually betwen one and two minutes.

What causes a power stroke engine to fail?
The HPOS on the 03 to early 04 6.0L Power Stroke engines are a different design and most of the issues are caused by a bad ICP (injection control pressure) sensor, located under the turbo, which fails due to heat, or a failed HPOP (high pressure oil pump) and / or a failed IPR (injection pressure regulator).
What causes power stroke 6.0 liter diesel to have no boost?
When a turbocharger starts to fail it will have the same symptoms as a bad EGR valve. The vanes in the turbocharger that control boost can build up with carbon or rust which can cause an over boost condition or a no boost condition.
