What is a PCV port?

What is a PCV port?

The major component in the (PCV) system is the PCV valve. It consists of a simple spring-loaded valve with a sliding pintle inside. A hose connects the top of the (PCV) valve to a vacuum port on the throttle body; carburetor or intake manifold. Allowing the vapors to be siphoned directly into the engine.

Should I run a PCV valve?

Run a PCV valve it doesn’t cost you any HP. The PCV sucks the crankcase fumes or blow-by from your engine. If you don’t run one, usually you will get fumes in the car from blow-by and it makes a mess if your valve covers as your breathers will fillup quickly.

Where is the vacuum located on an Edelbrock carb?

Aug 19, ยท Re: Edelbrock Carb Vacuum Hookups The vacuum present at the driver’s side port on an Edelbrock carb should be exactly the same as the rear port, which is the same as the vacuum in the manifold. There is no flow involved, both points are connected directly to the intake plenum.

Where is the PCV port on a carb?

It’s right behind the where the carb sits. You can use either one as long as the manifold port is plumbed into the manifold plenum and not into one of the runners. If it’s hooked into one of the manifold runners, that cylinder can load up and become fouled.

Where to plug PCV into the intake manifold?

What matters is that you plumb the fitting somewhere that will get a full vacuum signal at idle. If you have a manifold port available that is convenient to the PCV location on the valve cover, use that one. If not, use whatever port that is most convenient to the PCV valve and requires the least amount of plumbing.

Where is the intake port on a carb?

Below is a pic of the intake port. It’s right behind the where the carb sits. You can use either one as long as the manifold port is plumbed into the manifold plenum and not into one of the runners. If it’s hooked into one of the manifold runners, that cylinder can load up and become fouled.

Where to connect various vacuum accessories to the CARB?

One to the tank, one to the base of the carb and the small one to the port above the throttle blades on the carb. There is no temperature sensor. When the vacuum above the blades gets high enough (ie above idle conditions), that vacuum opens the purge valve. None of this matters.

Where is the Trans on an Edelbrock 1406?

If no brake booster, then that port on the back of the carb could also be used for the trans modulator, or as already stated use the port on the intake manifold to the rear of the carb for the trans. Thanks for all the info. I figured someone out there would have far more knowledge than I do.

Where is the NPT port on the CARB?

There is an additional 1/4″ npt port on the rear on the carb’s base plate for a brake booster if you don’t want to ‘Tee’ off of another connector for the booster – depending on your engine compartment plumbing it most likely would look neater without tee connectors.

Is the vacuum port on the driver side?

Thanks, Eric The driver side vacuum port is manifold vacuum, the passenger side is ported vacuum.
