How do you connect a power window switch?

How do you connect a power window switch?

Whichever wire on the window motor was at 12 volts constant when the window rolled upwards, connect that to the “up” location wire on the switch. Connect the “down” wire from the switch to the other wire on the same motor. Repeat for the other switch.

How do you install a power window kit?

A close hanger or similar tool may be necessary. Next, test fit the power window kit to a spot on the door, just by holding it in place, to see where it will best fit. Be sure to keep your eye close on clearances. Lastly, you will need to identify your power and ground sources as well as the switch kit wiring.

How does the power run through a window?

The power also runs through the lockout switch to a similar window switch on each of the other doors. When the driver presses one of the switches, one of the two side contacts is disconnected from the ground and connected to the center power contact, while the other one remains grounded. This provides power to the window motor.

Where are the power windows and switches located?

You will find 4-5 wires on the bottom of the switch; 5 wires if your switch is illuminated. Connect the 12volt wire to either and ignition wire or a 12 volt constant source. It depends on if you only want the windows to work with the car on or if you wish them to operate always.

Where are the power windows on a car?

Some cars have one in the driver’s door, as well as a central module called the body controller. Cars that have lots of controls on the door are more likely to have a setup like this. Some cars have the power-window, power-mirror, power-lock and even power-seat controls all on the door. This would be too many wires to try to run out of the door.

What kind of motor does a power window system use?

A power window system uses a DC motor to actuate the glass and open the door windows. The DC motor works in the nominal 2 to 5 Amp current range. For this reason, a relay has almost always been used to control the motor. The basic motor operation is done by reversing the polarity of it’s power and ground input.

Where does the power come from on a window relay?

This circuit connection is very useful due to the fact that many older vehicles can be re-wired using original or aftermarket parts, keeping the windows operational. 12 volt power is fed from the fuse to terminal 87 of the relay. This terminal then becomes the power input. Power is also fed to terminal 85 of the relay coil on both relays.
