The Ford F-150 comes with many different rear axle options that have different gear ratios depending on what You need to do with the truck. What causes the rear end of a Ford F150 to vibrate?

It seems to be pinpoint approx. 50-55mph. and minimal at lower speeds. Also seems to get worse with turns and bumps in the road. You can literally watch the bed of the truck vibrate in the mirrors. (also seems to be more on drivers side) It doesn’t affect the steering or anything in front of vehicle.

Why does my Ford F150 shake when I drive?

The mechanic told him that it was a bearing between the drive shaft and the rear diff…. and that it was ok to drive on, it would just be annoying. So, the truck drives great until you reach 60 km/hr, or roughly 40 mph. At this point it starts shaking almost like something right down the box and into the cab of the truck is rippling.

Why does my rear differential make a clunking noise?

If the pinion bearings are the problem, they create more of a whirring noise than a rumble because it turns several times faster than the carrier assembly. Regular clunking every few feet can also be an indicator of a broken pinion gear and/or chipped and damaged ring gear.

Is it a noise in the rear end?

“It’s a noise in the rear end” – No, it’s not. Should it be the slip yoke (and that’s what I’m going on here) it’s not in the rear of the vehicle it’s in the center of the vehicle. Plus, I just have issue with the term “in the rear end”….not because of some traumatic childhood event but because “in the rear end” means the differential or axles.

Why does my F150 make a clunk noise?

I’m confident it is the axle play, causing the axle to move in and out slightly just enough to make the clunk noise. Seems like it either needs tighter fitting c clips on the axles or a very thin washer on the axle but the dealer just says it’s a normal noise.
