5r55s started losing reverse then gone! Just 6 months ago my wife complained about a hard shift going to 4th gear. The fix was new solenoid pak and it’s been fine ever since until a few weeks ago she was attempting to back up about a 20 degree incline with 6 persons on board but it would not move.

We have run into a strange problem with our Explorer. It is a 1999 4.0L with auto 4×4. While driving it just slipped out of gear, and the overdrive light was flashing. Its quickly fixed itself, but did it again shortly after. After doing this a few times, it did not recover.

need to have fixed/covered in order to drive. car won’t go into reverse. No problems with transmission until one day it decided that it didn’t like reverse. Car is well maintained and only has 81000 miles. I think this is a little early for a transmission failure. Major expense repair.
