I picked up my 2007 Silverado K1500, 4×4 Crew on Friday, March 9th and noticed the same problem. Rough shift from 1st to 2nd. It had 5 miles on it when delivered. Now at 36 miles the shift is smooth. I attributed the rough shifting to incomplete trans fluid distribution.

To keep the 2nd gear, I must be soft on the throttle. I notice also that if I put the lever in 1 I don’t have engine braking ?
