Why does my Chevy 2500 4 wheel drive not work?

The light says it engaged but its not. With the truck in 4×4 mode and the truck in neautral i crawled underneith and cant spin the front drive shaft. I unplugged the battery for five minutes and still no luck. Any ideas? Submitted: 10 years ago.
