When to change the fuel pump in a Ford Expedition?
When to change the fuel pump in a Ford Expedition?
Replacing the fuel pump in your Ford Expedition may be a result of frequently driving until the gasoline tank is close to empty. It is best to change the fuel pump when the fuel level is very low, unless you can siphon the fuel out of the gas tank.
What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump?
With that in mind, most of the symptoms of a bad fuel pump revolve around the vehicle stalling out or not running at all. In modern fuel injected vehicles, the fuel pump sits right in the fuel tank and “pushes” the gasoline to the fuel rail (s).
Where is the fuel gauge on a Ford Expedition?
Disconnect the negative battery cable with a wrench. Connect a fuel pressure gauge onto the pressure test port; this is located on the fuel rail near the center of the engine compartment. Turn the valve to bleed the fuel into a metal cup or other gas-safe container, relieving the fuel pressure.
Where does the fuel pump go in a car?
In modern fuel injected vehicles, the fuel pump sits right in the fuel tank and “pushes” the gasoline to the fuel rail (s). It is in the fuel tank because “pushing” fuel to the fuel rail is easier than “pulling” the fuel, which is what an inline pump would do.
How to replace a fuel pump on a 2000 Ford Expedition?
Disconnect the electrical connector–the small two-part plug device underneath the pump–from the pump/sending unit assembly; use a small screwdriver if you cannot do it by hand. Remove the clamp’s bolt with a small wrench to remove the pump from the assembly.

The engine may throw a P0087 trouble code. This trouble code detects that the fuel rail/system pressure is too low.
What to do if your fuel pump goes bad?
If there’s been zero warning that the fuel pump could be going bad (hesitation, difficulty starting, etc) then it should not be automatically assumed that the fuel pump is at fault. Here’s a great youtube video on how to test a fuel filter:
Disconnect the negative battery cable with a wrench. Connect a fuel pressure gauge onto the pressure test port; this is located on the fuel rail near the center of the engine compartment. Turn the valve to bleed the fuel into a metal cup or other gas-safe container, relieving the fuel pressure.

When did my 2005 Ford Expedition stop running?
I, too, had a 2005 Expedition I bought brand new. On 12/23/09, I backed out of the garage and it quit running. Would not start – have never had an issue with this one or any other Expedition. Had it towed to dealer – said needs fuel pump for the tune of 960.00.
Why are there no replacement parts for Ford Expedition?
There is some speculation that this may be a result of “cash for clunkers”: the government has made it public policy that these large block SUVs are disfavored and their destruction will be subsidized, therefore the parts manufacturers will not make replacement parts for cars that are being forced off the market.
Can a Ford Expedition go on a ski trip?
Effectively, yes. Couldn’t take it on a ski trip this weekend because the used pump we installed is still not reliable. Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn’t. Didn’t want to drive it 300 miles to the mountains on the chance that we would be stranded.
