Click here to learn how! Just bought a 2017 escape with a power rear hatch, when it closes it does not completly close. If you grab the handle and pull up slightly it will engage the power mechanism and close the hatch tightly. It goes all the way down but doesn’t engage the auto lock mechanism.

Why is the power lift gate not latching on my 2013 escape?
I have not had an issue with the hatch closing on my 2013 Escape but what occasionally happens only in cold weather is that I will get a false signal/warning that the hatch is ajar. This occurs only in cold weather down here (infrequent). I have learned that simply re-opening and re-closing the hatch will correct the issue.
Why did my power hatch close on Me?
Keep in mind, this is a garaged kept vehicle driven by two 70 plus seniors and the hinge must have been ruined by trips to the grocery store, where the hatch was opened and closed automatically. We don’t really think this would be considered “rough service”.

Just experienced this problem on a 2018 Ford Edge SEL. Was leaving a parking garage when for some unknown reason, the rear hatch failed to latch properly and the hatch door raised. I was looking for exit turn directions and because the garage was somewhat dark, I failed to see the warning notice on the dash that the hatch was not properly locked.

Is there an issue with the Toyota power hatch?
Update on hatch issue: Toyota dealer tried to replicate issue without success and also ran tests on the electrical system, also without finding anything out of a normal range. Has anyone else experienced this issue with the 2014 Highlander power hatch?
