The Ford E450 is notorious for bad caster alignment which makes driving any unit a challenge. Had my E450 realigned with the appropriate caster adjustment (look up other Ford E450 forums for the numbers) and a spring-load “steer-straight” modification (about $400 and two hours installation time) on the front wheel hubs.
What are the brakes on a Ford E-450?
Check the rear axle proportion valve. On down grades, it tends to raise & cut the fluid pressure to the rear wheel brakes (over-working the front). This happened on mine. I adjusted the ride height & now all is well. I still use my gears for long down-grades. There is no proportioning valve on the E-series.

What’s the difference between a coach and an E450?
Sold that coach and bought a 27′ 2015 Class on an E450 chassis with Liquid Springs. The ride difference is incredible. No handling issues. Rarely feel the effects of a cross wind. no banging noise unless I hit an extreme bump. No swaying when turning.
Why is my vacuum line not working on my Ford E450?
If your ac defaults to defrost, the most likely problem is the check valve or vacuum tank. If your lucky, a loose vacuum line. Ford buried the valve and tank under the heater and battery box. Ford says you have to remove the heater box to get at the tank and valve.

Follow it over the brake master cylinder and then going to the front of the motor. Be careful not to pull on the vacuum lines too hard as they are brittle and crack very easily . It will T off and go down into the fender. Plug it off with a screw a little smaller than the line and use some silicone to hold the screw in.

Ford replaced it with Mercon V a few years ago. I have changed the fluid in our 2003 E450 with the 4R100 transmission twice. The first time, back in 2006, I was able to get the Ford Mercon. Last year I went to the local Ford dealer and asked the parts guy what to use.
