For some vehicles this is a common problem after updating the tail lights and/or other signal lights to LED/SMD bulbs. We recommend a couple different ways to address this problem, but first it is important to understand why there is a problem.

Dimmers are made to handle higher electrical loads and don’t always play well with lower-voltage LEDs. More about dimmer switches…they don’t work well with most fluorescent and non-dimmable CFL bulbs. To avoid flickering, make sure you use only dimmable bulbs that are compatible with your switch. What happens to the flasher when the bulb is changed?
As long as the total load is in line with the flasher relay’s requirements, the system will function without any issues. When bulbs are changed from the factory installed incandescent bulbs to LED or SMD bulbs, the current draw (or load) to the flasher is reduced.
Which is better flashing light or steady light?
Having one flashing light and one steady light is a good compromise — you can grab drivers’ attention but the steady light helps improve distance estimates. Avoid extreme strobe patterns though, and opt for a pulsing light (like on the Light and Motion Urban 700) or a subtler flash like Cygolite’s Metro and Expilion series.
