My 2013 was doing the same thing out of the blue, one morning it worked the same afternoon it didnt. I called Ford and did everything I knew to do short of taking it in. My batteries were disconnected due to another issue and when I reconnected them, Sync worked fine.

But sometimes the radio doesn’t come on, well it is actually on but no display and no sound. If I press the radio power button the display flashes momentarily and the radio turns off. Then when I press the radio power button a second time the radio turns on as normal.

I found a ground wire, located on the inner left frame rail that was significantly corroded. I removed the corroded connector, scraped the wires, installed a new connector and re-connected to frame. As I was doing this, I found a loose wire at one of the connectors located in this location (just as Mattpippert21 noted).
