The original IBM personal computers had an RS-232 port that connected external devices like a keyboard or mouse. Today, USB ports are replacing RS-232 ports. This includes keyboards, cameras, mice, joysticks,modems, zip drives, floppy drives, printers, and scanners.
Why do my USB ports keep breaking?
USB cables going bad. Typically near the strain relief. There are small wires inside the cables and they can break if flexed a lot over time. The solution to this is to use a much thicker wire with a stiffer jacket.

Click to expand… Mine was more like 3 times in a week using a USB 2.0 sandisk. I tried a few other non-low profile sticks with the same results. Not a fuse problem and both ports work again if you leave the car off long enough for the sync system to reset.

FWIW I run a USB stick in it everyday and as I said, 3 times in year does not concern me at all. There aren’t any bigger threads because it’s not a significant issue, and in most cases resolves itself, very few folks have had it break and need dealer service.

USB ports stopped working entirely. So obviously my car knows I was talking **** about the USB charging yesterday, so today it randomly decided to completely stop all connection from the usb ports. No charge, no android auto. Tried different cords, reset phone, tried said cords in another charger outside of car and all is well.
