Why does my focus have a rough idle?
Why does my focus have a rough idle?
After reading countless threads and various webposts I took a shot at the MAFS. As the car was at a idle I disconnected the MAFS and the revs went up and the idle smoothed out mostly. With it disconnected it doesnt idle down nowhere close to where it will shake the engine or stall.
What kind of problem does a Ford Focus have?
I have a ford focus 2002. It has an idle problem. At a stop the idle will vary from normal down to about 500 RPM, almost stalling. It does this variation very cyclically, every 5 seconds or so. Rec… Stack Exchange Network
What happens to the idle speed at a stop?
At a stop the idle will vary from normal down to about 500 RPM, almost stalling. It does this variation very cyclically, every 5 seconds or so. Recently while driving I hit a hard pothole, and the problem stopped (it has been gone for about a month now) so it seems like something was loose?
Why does my Ford Focus run at idle?
When a Ford Focus exhibits problems with running roughly at idle speeds, auto mechanics generally look first to either a vacuum problem, or more often, a problem with water getting into the Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor (DPFE), a part of the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation system).
How can you tell if your car engine is misfiring?
Rough acceleration is a typical sign that your engine is misfiring. Sometimes, the engine will misfire on idle also; your engine sensors will get faulty values, and the air-fuel mixture will get messed up. This can cause a very uneven idle, which can jump up and down, and the engine may also shut off on idle.
What should I do if my Ford engine misfire?
If this were a GM vehicle, you’d connect a scan tool and review the engine misfire data parameters to pinpoint the cylinder that’s causing the intermittent misfire. But this is a Ford, and misfire data parameters are not available in the enhanced data stream. You decide to connect a scan tool anyway and to check for possible pending trouble codes.
Why does my Ford Focus fail emissions test?
If you live in a state with vehicle emissions testing, this may be the reason why your car fails the test. With the Ford Focus in particular, the problem may be caused by water getting into the DPFE sensor, interfering with its ability to accurately gauge pressure changes in the EGR system.

What does dpfe stand for in Ford Focus?
One of these components EGR’s differential pressure feedback sensor, commonly known as the DPFE. When the pressure feedback senses that pressure is low, it opens the EGR valve to increase the flow of recirculating exhaust gases, and shuts down the flow when it senses that pressure is high.
How big is the solenoid on a Ford Focus?
Cut vertically upward from the bottom along each of the two vertical lines, stopping at the line drawn horizontally. Fold the section of insulation upward. With the insulation held up, reinstall the EVR solenoid. Tighten to 36 +/- 6 lb.-in. (4.1 +/- 0.7 N.m)

Why is my 5.3 L missing and rough idle intermittently?
5.3 L Missing and Rough Idle Intermittently I have changed Spark Plugs,Wires ,Coil Packs, and removed Fuel Injectors and soaked overnight. Engine code is a P0304. Misfire Cylinder #4. Most of the time around town is alright. When i put it on highway, it will surge like its cutting off and then pick right back up and be fine. Fuel Presure is 55 psi.
What’s the RPM on a 4 cyclinder at stop light?
Sometimes when sitting at stop light you can feel motor lope a little and RPM’s fall to about 300. I am running out of ideas. I swapped fuel injector on 4 cyclinder thinking the misfire might follow injector for trouble shooting.
