How does the fan clutch work on a car?
The cooling fan clutch actuator valve controls the fluid flow from the reservoir into the working chamber. Once viscous fluid is in the working chamber, shearing of the fluid results in fan rotation. The cooling fan clutch actuator valve is activated with a pulse width modulated (PWM) output signal from the PCM.

How does the PCM control the fan clutch?
By opening and closing the fluid port valve, the PCM can control the cooling fan clutch speed. The cooling fan clutch speed is measured by a Hall-effect sensor and is monitored by the PCM during closed loop operation.
Why does my car fan run at high RPMs?
Fan periodically running at… Periodically while driving, the fan will rev at high rpms (almost same speed as my engine rpms as accelerating), but temp is normal. This type of thing usually begins after I come to a stop, then when I accelerate, the fan starts reving high (faster i go, faster fan runs).
Why is my water pump fan making noise?
Suspect the low coolant causing cooling fan to engage and become louder randomly. Replaced water pump assembly. Filled and purged cooling system. Retested. No noises.” After completing this work, the fan noises went away – it did not require replacement of the radiator.
Why does my Ford Expedition blower motor keep going?
My Ford vehicle decided to set the blower motor on HIGH no matter what. If I put my climate control to OFF, the blower motor keeps going. The fan control no longer works. The only way I can stop the fan is if I turn the vehicle off, then press OFF then restart the vehicle.
What should I do if my blower motor wont turn on?
Connect a fused jumper lead between the blower motor relay socket pin 30 and pin 87. If the fan turns on, then the speed control module needs to be replace (the one you disconnected in the first post.) Disconnect the C228a connector first, following the below instructions.
