Spent 3 hours last night searching under the engine with UV additive to the oil and then a camera scope to the the exact same problem with oil dripping out the hole in the bottom of the VCT. Here is my thread with the part number and parts if anybody else need the details. Passenger side.

Looking at the Workshop Manual for your ’13-’14 US Escape 1.6 engine …. Inspect the O-ring on the solenoid – “The O-ring seals are to be reused unless damaged.”

Inspect the O-ring on the solenoid – “The O-ring seals are to be reused unless damaged.” The 13 bolts for the portion of the valve cover at that end call for 3-stage torqueing: 5 Nm; 9Nm; 10 Nm (there’s a tightening sequence diagram but I can’t post it due to copyright; roughly ‘alternating sides’ as you might expect)
Can a VCT solenoid be replaced on an EcoBoost?
FYI the valve cover-to-head seal relies on an applied bead of “Flange Sealant”, not a gasket or convoluted ‘O’-ring. In my experience it’s very difficult to stop leaking once that type of seal is ‘broken’/penetrated by oil (without total R&R, surface cleaning and re-sealing) but I hope you get lucky. Does anyone know where the wastegate solenoid is on a 2014 Ford Escape SE 1.6L. Mine has been firing off code P0234 and when I got the code checked it stated the wastegate solenoid is bad.
