Why is the oil warning light on on my Ford Mondeo?

I had a 2008 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI, and the ‘oil service’ light came on after 3.5K miles and 3 months from new. Dealer service manager told me it was a known issue relating to over-cautious parameters for the oil quality indicator, they had a tech service bulletin about it (I never found out the TSB number, unfortunately).
